What I Do
My name is Mark, and I am an innovative and technically astute integration specialist with over 6 years of experience in implementing software. I regularly use multiple programming languages, including PHP, JavaScript, SQL, Python, and APIs, to perform a wide array of implementation functions. These functions include, but are not limited to: data ETL, mining, im port/export, single-sign-on authentication, user directory sharing, software migrations, and schema modeling. My experiences have provided me with a broad range of expertise in program and operations management, human resources, business analytics, and software development.
Why I Do It
My fascination with technology predates my teenage years. The pivotal moment of my interest in IT began with embedded system coding on automotive engine control units. The rest, was history. By nature, I am an inquisitive person and am always searching for the "why" behind the "what". I also believe that businesses are extensions of the people that found and operate them. With this perspective, I tend to view the objectives of a company as the realization of personal goals in the pursuit of greatness. Helping people align their goals with solutions rooted in software can make those accomplishments a reality. I take great pride in participating in those successes and watching others flourish.
Where I am Going
As an active ACM member, I am always watching the technology and science scene. I feel very privileged to have access to the resources that I have. To give back to the community that paved the way for me to enter, I plan on conducting research in the realm of Data Science in a Ph.D. program. My hope is that any contributions that I make will provide aspiring the current and future generations with food for thought or, maybe even a solution to some of the hurdles that the field currently faces.
What I Bring to the Table
Over the years I have had the opportunity to learn new skills as I worked through challenging problems. Below are some of them. I am also open to learning more through collaboration and work experiences.
Web Development
The web is where it started for me. I am comfortable with web development. I have experience with ProcessWire, PHP, Javascript, HTML, CSS, XML, JSON, and REST APIs... to name a few.
Python and R
I studied R in my graduate courses and enjoyed the leverage it provides in analytics. But... I'm learning to love Python more every day. When it comes to a wider spectrum of duties, Python is just great to use.
Workflow Orchestration and Automation
I am Joget DX certified and routinely use Joget DX and ProcessMaker to orchestrate and automate process flows.
Databases and Warehouses
I was introduced to databases when I began my web development journey. MySQL and PostgreSQL are the two databases that I began with and have used other flavors of SQL including Oracle and embedded SQLite. BigQuery is my analytics warehouse of choice for any projects requiring it since I am a fan of the GCP environment.
Reporting and Analytics
This is where it's at. I love turning data to something usable. I use various tools at different part of the pipeline but Tableau Prep, Tableau Desktop, Looker, SAS Enterprise Guide and SAS Enterprise Miner are among my favorite viz and analytic tools.
Business Acumen
My education in Business Analytics and my experiences as a freelancer and company owner have taught me how to listen well and develop solutions with a sincere intent to solve problems. I have experience with Operations Management, HIPAA regulated verticals, Compliance and Risk Management, LTC Medicaid providers, and more.
